On the same lines, a discontent is brewing against the invitations extended to Hindi lyricist and script writer Javed Aktar and corrupt bureaucrat Vishwas Patil, who will attend the sammelan as the chief guests.
Noted Hindi lyricist and script writer Javed Aktar neither speaks Marathi nor he has any affinity towards Marathi literature although he has been residing in Mumbai since 1957. His contribution to Marathi literature is zero. Then why has he been invited as the chief guest?
Comparatively, Bollywood star Amir Khan speaks far better Marathi and he knows the Marathi language. To invite him would have been a better proposition, say critics.
Besides Javed Akhtar, the novelist Vishwas Patil will be present during the inauguration of the sammelan. Patil is an IAS and former bureaucrat. He has written many historical novels in Marathi. But he is accused of publishing books in his name seeking services of the ghost writers.
Before retirement Patil served as a CEO of Maharashtra Government’s Slum Rehabilitation Authority. He retired in 2018. Before retirement he hurriedly approved 137 files. It is alleged that out of 137 files, he cleared 33 files in violation of regulations. All these files were linked to FSI fraud. He cleared these files to benefit eminent builders of Mumbai. He is accused of amassing wealth worth Arabs of rupees through this clandestine deal. The then Devendra Fadnavis government had set up a special committee to probe the matter.
However, the above committee was appointed just to throw dust in the eyes of the people. This committee never submitted any concrete report. On the contrary the committee was successful in suppressing this mega fraud. However both ruling party and Opposition leaders kept mum. Because Patil skillfully handled the “economics” of all the leaders. He excels in “managing” any matter. So it is unethical to invite such a corrupt bureaucrat as the chief guest, most of the writers have reacted angrily.
