Sprouts Brand Story

Corruption on large scale in the Maharashtra Govt’s free sapling distribution scheme being implemented under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has come to the fore in Partur and Ghansawangi talukas of Jalna district of Maharashtra.

This scam was first exposed by Sprouts’ Special Investigation Team (SIT). After that, the sands were shifted under the feet of the concerned officers and employees involved in the scam.

Several top officers are involved in this scheme. Taluka Agriculture officer Ram Rokde, Assistant Agriculture officer Amol Kolhe, and Bill clerk Dilip Hiwale are still at large. The complaints have been lodged with Dr. Vijay Rathod but no action has been taken against anyone. As such a needle of suspicion is pointed out toward Rathod.

Social worker Mahendra Gawade has demanded a high-level inquiry into this massive scam. Besides the inquiry being conducted by Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax department, Anti Corruption Bureau, and General Administration Department, to unearth the entire scam threadbare, Gawade added.

How did the scam work out?

The officers showed on papers that the saplings worth Rs 50 crore were purchased from the nursery under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). They printed the bogus bills and submitted them to the Government in support of their claim. They also claimed to have distributed saplings among poor and needy farmers.
