The Mumbai District Central Co-Operative Bank Ltd (Mumbai Bank), has prospered through the hard work of common Mumbaikars. But Pravin Darekar advanced loans worth crores of rupees illegally and has been leading the bank towards doom.
The board of directors of Mumbai Bank has swindled crores of rupees by advancing irregular loans. Darekar had been contesting the elections as a representative of the labour cooperative for the last many years. This year too he had filed his nomination, but it was rejected by the Cooperative dept, when it was revealed that he was not a labourer. He had mentioned his status as a “painter” attached to the Pratidnya Labour Cooperative, the report of the Maharashtra Cooperative Department stated.
The President and Secretary of the Pratidnya Labour Cooperative Society too mentioned on the society’s letterhead that Darekar was a painter and was registered as a labourer with the society. Not only this but the society also stated that he was given wages of Rs 66,000 for the work carried out by him from 2016 and 2019. However the days during which Darekar has stated to have worked, do not figure in the society’s muster roll, as per the report of the District Deputy Registrar (DDR) of the Cooperative society.
The members of Pratidnya Labour Cooperative Society, including its President, Secretary and Darekar are not involved in any labour work. Besides, the premises stated to be belonging to the Pratidnya society have been rented out to some other person, the DDR’s report stated.
Darekar and his board of directors had advanced a loan of Rs 27 crore irregularly based on fake documents to BJP MLC Suresh Dhas. It is alleged that the loan reeks of economic irregularities. The Maharashtra state Cooperation department has ordered registration of offences against Suresh Dhas and his wife Prajakta Dhas.
“The Mumbai Bank has also advanced the loans worth crores of rupees to the institutions related to the state Home Minister Dilip Walse – Patil in violation of rules of the cooperation department. As such the inquiry be conducted against the irregular loans given to these institutions outside mumbai city limit, related to Dilip Walse Patil”
