It has been 15 days since the complaint was lodged with the police regarding the attempt to kill the Goregaon film studio’s former owner and 1960-70s Bollywood actress by giving extra sleeping pills, let alone the ‘FIR’, even a simple ‘NC’ has not been registered. The sensational information has come to the hands of the Sprouts’ Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Neena Jalan is the former owner of Filmistan Studio, Goregaon. Currently, her age is 75 years. She lives in Powai. Deepali Datare, a woman living in Ghatkopar, was working as a nurse. She won Neena’s trust in no time. So she knew about the money, jewelry, and other valuables in the house. She used to keep all the keys including the safe in the house. She also used to write the expenses of the home and office and pay salaries to servants and employees.
Neena was impressed by her work. She treated her like a daughter. Sometimes She used to share her personal things with her. Deepali took advantage of it. She often stole money from the house. But after the death of her husband Tolaram, Neena used to be alone at home. She doesn’t even have children. Due to desperation, Neena kept silent about this despite knowing about it.
Neena started loving Deepali’s son as her grandson. Deepali took further advantage of it.
Neena has heart pain. So the doctor prescribed some vitamins, blood thinning, and sleeping pills. Accordingly, she started taking the dose of these medicines on purpose. Deepali used to give the dose of these pills to him.
The doctor had told her to take 1 sleeping pill before going to bed at night, but Deepali started giving her extra sleeping pills during the day as well. In Neena’s words, she was in a ‘behoshi ki neeend’.
Due to the extra dose of sleeping pills, she would sleep for four to five hours continuously that day as well. Her health also deteriorated after sleeping day and night. This went on for more than two months. Neena, however, still believed in Deepali. Deepali had also convinced Neena that this problem is due to growing age and Neena had accepted it wholeheartedly.
In that, Neena got pneumonia. She was admitted to the nearby Hiranandani Hospital at Powai. She was discharged from there after 5 days. After coming home, she was shocked. More than 3 lakhs of his house had disappeared. old jewelry was also missing. Enraged by this, Neena asked Deepali to answer and told her that she had to complain to the police station. Deepali got scared and put the jewelry back in the locker.
After this incident, Deepali’s exploits were gradually noticed by Neena. So Deepali pretended to go to a wedding and called Sushma, a former servant of Neena’s, in her place.
Deepali had poisoned Nina’s mind about this same Sushma. Sushma joined. After that, Neena was cautious.
Deepali had prepared the doses of all the medicines before leaving. Instead of giving 1 sleeping pill, three and a half pills were given. An angry Neena called Deepali and asked about it, to which replied that she ‘must have given it by mistake’. After that, Neena’s eyes opened wide.
Giving extra sleeping pills is a form of slow poisoning. Therefore, Neena realized that this was a conspiracy to kill her, and filed a complaint in Powai Police Station. She also met Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Sonawane. But the police have not yet taken an FIR let alone a simple NC.
When the Sprouts’ reporter called Sonawane about this, he replied ‘I will inform you’.
About Nina Jalan
Neena Jalan (earlier Neena Garkal) played roles in famous films in the 1960s and 1970s such as Aya Sawan Jhoom ke (1969), Bharosa (1963), Shehar se Door (1972), Jalte Badan (1973), Shagoon (1964), Char Diwari (1961). She was married to Tolaram Jalan, a businessman and film financier. After this marriage, Tolaram produced more than 120 films with the help of Neena. Even after his demise, Neena has managed Filmistan Studio successfully.
Sanjay Pandey’s plan was foiled
The Mumbai Police had taken strict steps to provide security to the senior citizens of Mumbai. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey had also given orders in this regard. He also ordered to Prepare a list of senior citizens, who live alone in Mumbai. Police Bit Officers should visit them once a week to know their problems. Not only this, the DCP and ACP of that area were also instructed to ensure these visits. But after Pandey, this plan was wrapped up.

गोरेगाव फिल्म स्टुडिओच्या पूर्वीच्या मालकीण व १९६०-७० च्या दशकातील बॉलिवूडमधील नटीला अतिरिक्त झोपेच्या गोळ्या देऊन जीवे मारण्याचा प्रयत्न करण्यात आला, याबाबत पोलिसांना तक्रार अर्ज देवून १५ दिवस झाले, मात्र ‘एफआयआर’ तर सोडा; साधी ‘एनसी’ही नोंदवून घेतलेली नाही, अशी खळबळजनक माहिती ‘स्प्राऊट्स’च्या स्पेशल इन्व्हेस्टीगेशन टीमच्या (SIT) हाती आलेली आहे.
नीना जालन (Neena Jalan) या गोरेगाव स्टेशनजवळ असणाऱ्या फिल्मिस्तान (Filmistan Studio) स्टुडिओच्या पूर्वीच्या मालकीण आहेत. सध्या त्यांचे वय ७५ वर्षे आहे. त्या पवई येथे राहतात. त्यांच्याकडे घाटकोपर येथे राहणारी दीपाली दातारे (Deepali Datare ) ही महिला नर्स म्हणून काम करीत होती. तिने अल्पावधीतच नीना यांचा विश्वास संपादन केला. त्यामुळे घरातील पैसे, दागिने व इतर मौल्यवान गोष्टींची तिला माहिती होती. घरातील तिजोरीसकट सर्वच चाव्या तीच सांभाळायची. घर व ऑफिसमधील खर्च लिहिणे, नोकर, कर्मचाऱ्यांना पगार देणे, ही कामेही ती नित्यनियमाने करीत असे.
तिचा कामाचा उरक बघून नीना यांना भुरळ पडली होती. त्यांनी तिला मुलीसारखे मानले होते. कित्येकदा त्या त्यांच्या खासगी गोष्टीही तिच्याशी शेअर करायच्या. त्याचा गैरफायदा दीपालीने घेतला. ती अनेकदा घरातील पैसे चोरायची. मात्र पती तोलाराम यांचे निधन झाल्यानंतर नीना घरी एकट्याच असायच्या. त्यांना मुलंबाळंही नाही. त्यामुळे कळूनही हतबलतेमुळे याबाबतीत नीना मौन बाळगून होत्या.
दिपालीच्या मुलांवरही नीना स्वतःच्या नातवाप्रमाणे प्रेम करायला लागल्या होत्या. त्याचा आणखी गैरफायदा दीपालीने घेतला.
नीना यांना हार्टचे दुखणे आहे. त्यामुळे डॉक्टरांनी त्यांना काही व्हिटॅमिन्स, रक्त पातळ करणे (blood thinning ) व झोपेच्या गोळ्या लिहून दिल्या होत्या. त्याप्रमाणे त्या निमितपणे या औषधांचा डोस घेवू लागल्या होत्या. या गोळ्यांचा डोस त्यांना दीपाली देत होत्या.
डॉक्टरांनी रात्री झोपण्यापूर्वी झोपेची १ गोळी घ्यायला सांगितली होती, मात्र दीपाली त्यांना या झोपेच्या अतिरिक्त गोळ्या दिवसाही देवू लागली होती. नीना यांच्या शब्दात सांगायचे झाले तर त्यामुळे त्या ‘बेहोशी के नींद’ मध्ये होत्या.
झोपेच्या गोळ्यांच्या अतिरिक्त डोसामुळे, त्या दिवसाही चार ते पाच तास सलग वारंवार झोपायच्या. दिवस-रात्र कायम झोप घेवून त्यांची तब्येतही खालावली होती. हा प्रकार दोन महिन्यांहून अधिक काळ चालला होता. नीना यांचा मात्र दीपाली यांच्यावर तरीही विश्वासच होता. वाढत्या वयामुळे हा त्रास होत आहे, हे दीपाली हिने नीना यांना पटवून दिलेही होते व नीना यांनी ते मनापासून मान्यही केले होते.
त्यातच नीना यांना न्यूमोनिया (pneumonia) झाला. जवळच्याच हिरानंदानी हॉस्पिटलमध्ये त्या ऍडमिट झाल्या. तेथून त्यांना ५ दिवसांनी डिस्चार्ज मिळाला. घरी आल्यानंतर त्यांना धक्काच बसला. त्यांच्या घरची ३ लाखांहून अधिक रक्कम गायब झालेली होती. दागिनेही गहाळ झाले होते. त्यामुळे चिडलेल्या नीना यांनी दीपाली यांना जाब विचारला व पोलीस स्टेशनमध्ये तक्रार करण्याविषयी सांगितले. त्यामुळे घाबरून दीपाली यांनी दागिने पुन्हा लॉकरमध्ये ठेवले.
या घटनेनंतर दीपाली हिचे कारनामे हळूहळू नीना यांच्या लक्षात येऊ लागले होते. त्यामुळे दीपाली हिने बाहेगावी जाण्याचा बहाणा केला व तिच्या जागी नीना यांच्याकडे कामाला असणाऱ्या पूर्वीच्या मदतनीस सुषमा हिला बोलावून घेतले.
याच सुषमाविषयी आधी दीपाली हिने नीना यांच्या मनात विष कालवले होते. सुषमा जॉईन झाली. त्यानंतर मात्र नीना सावध झाल्या होत्या.
दीपाली हिने जाण्यापूर्वी सर्व औषधांचे डोस तयार करून ठेवले होते. त्यात झोपेची १ गोळी देण्याऐवजी साडेतीन गोळ्या दिलेल्या आढळल्या. याबाबत चिडलेल्या नीना यांनी याबद्दल दीपाली हिला फोन करून विचारले असता तिने त्या ‘चुकून दिल्या असतील’ असे मोघम उत्तर दिले. त्यानंतर मात्र नीना यांचे डोळे खाडकन उघडले.
झोपेच्या अतिरिक्त गोळ्या देणे म्हणजे स्लो पॉयझन देण्याचा प्रकार आहे. त्यामुळे हा आपल्याला जीवे मारण्याचा कट होता, हे नीना यांच्या लक्षात आले, त्यावर त्यांनी पवई पोलीस स्टेशनमध्ये तक्रार अर्जही केला. वरिष्ठ पोलीस निरीक्षक जितेंद्र सोनावणे (Jitendra Sonawane) यांची भेटही घेतली. मात्र पोलिसांनी अद्याप एफआयआर तर सोडा साधी एनसीही घेतलेली नाही.
‘स्प्राऊट्स’च्या प्रतिनिधीने याबाबत सोनावणे (Jitendra Sonawane) यांना फोन केला असता त्यांनी ‘माहिती घेवून सांगतो’ असे उत्तर दिले.
नीना जलान यांच्याविषयी
नीना जलान (पूर्वीच्या Neena Garkal ) यांनी १९६० ते १९७० च्या दशकात Aya Sawan Jhoom ke (1969), Bharosa (1963), Shehar se Door (1972) Jalte Badan (१९७३), Shagoon (१९६४), Char Diwari (१९६१) यांसारख्या सुपरहिट चित्रपटांतून भूमिका केल्या होत्या. त्यांनी तोलाराम जालन (Tolaram Jalan) या बिझनेसमन व फिल्म फायनांन्सरशी लग्न केले होते. या लग्नानंतर तोलाराम यांनी नीना यांच्या सहकार्याने १२०हून अधिक चित्रपटांची निर्मिती केली. त्यांच्या निधनानंतरही नीना यांनी Filmistan Studio ची धुरा यशस्वीरीत्या सांभाळली आहे.
संजय पांडे यांची योजना गुंडाळली
मुंबईतील वरिष्ठ नागरिकांना (senior citizen) सुरक्षा पुरवण्यासंदर्भात मुंबई पोलिसांनी कडक पाऊले उचलली होती. मुंबईचे माजी पोलीस कमिशनर संजय पांडे (Sanjay Pandey) यांनी यासंबंधीचे आदेशही दिले होते. मुंबईमध्ये एकटे राहणाऱ्या ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांची यादी तयार करा व या नागरिकांच्या घरी एक रजिष्टर ठेवण्यात यावे, पोलीस बिट अधिकाऱ्यांनी आठवड्यातून एक वेळेला त्यांना भेटावे, त्यांच्या समस्या जाणून घ्याव्यात. इतकेच नव्हे तर त्या भागातील DCP व ACP यांनी या भेटींविषयी खातरजमा करून घ्याव्यात, अशा सूचनाही दिल्या होत्या. मात्र पांडे यांच्यानंतर ही योजना गुंडाळण्यात आली व ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांची सुरक्षा पुन्हा वाऱ्यावर आली.
