The Maharashtra Government has turned a blind eye towards the corrupt deals of the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine (MCIM), involving crores of rupees, although more and more deals are coming to the fore day in day out.

The MCIM has collected crores of rupees in the process of renewal of registrations of ayurvedic doctors and most of the doctors have been issued registration certificates based on fake documents. Despite this the Government and the Opposition has preferred to keep mum in the matter.

The MCIM had called for the SSC and HSC certificates for the renewal of registrations of over 60,000 doctors claiming that by this way, with physical verification of certificates, the unqualified doctors practicing Ayurved can be detected. However while doing so, the MCIM issued registrations to several unqualified doctors without verification of their documents after collecting huge money. Besides, some of the doctors were issued the certificates of “additional qualification”.

As per the documents, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Harit, a Dean of the Vashi based D Y Patil Ayurved College has also obtained the registration based on the bogus documents, with blessings of the MCIM registrar Dr Dilip Wange.

The certificates of SSC, HSC, BAMS and MD submitted by Dr. Harit are doubtful. His SSC and HSC certificates are hand-written. Besides, both the certificates have been signed by the same person, although the SSC and HSC boards are separate. Surprisingly the said “Doctor” Mahesh Kumar passed out SSC in 1985 and HSC in 1986 within a span of one year, although one completes HSC after two years of passing the SSC.

These certificates indicate a clear case of cheating. Despite this he was granted registration by Dr Wange immediately even without conducting inquiry into the matter. Besides, although Harit’s SSC and HSC certificates carry the names of his father-Sitaram Vidya, the MCIM has issued the certificates in the name of Maheshkumar Harit without mentioning the name of his father.

“Doctor” Maheshkumar Harit has been issued the certificate with registration No. I- 39064. But no schedule has been mentioned on the certificate. Basically in Maharashtra, the certificates are issued with schedules A, A1, B ,D ,E. Of these the permission to practice Ayurveda is given to those holding the certificates with the schedules- A, A1,B and D. However “Doctor” Harit’s certificate does not mention any such schedule. Yet he is working as a Dean of the Vashi-based D Y Patil Ayurved College. Imagine the hundreds of ayurvedic doctors being trained under the corrupt guidance of “Doctor” Harit.

The Sprouts Investigating Team (SIT) has pointed out that these issues are serious and doubtful and as such the matter be thoroughly investigated and if found guilty the permission given to the college be revoked.

The Sprouts’ Investigating Team has said that Dr Wange can be compared with corrupt police officer Sachin Vaze, facing many charges including the murder of a merchant Mansukh Hiran in Antilia bomb scare case. Dr Wange, attached to the Medical Education department, has given birth to many bogus ayurvedic doctors. Hence a departmental inquiry of corrupt Dr Wange be conducted and he be sacked immediately, the SIT has demanded.
