Ironically, even in the Internet age where information is never at a premium, a huge number of slum dwellers who were victimized by the fraudulent Omkar Realtors under the aegis of the JMJ group are unaware that three of its fund managers are already in jail custody and the group is under the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED’s) scanner.
Needless to say, fictitious names of a huge number of slum dwellers were pressed into service after the Realtors acquired land with excess Floor Space Index (FSI) for carrying out constructions under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme.
In a recent move, the ED attached land and property (flats) worth INR 410 crores that belonged to Omkar Realtors besides properties belonging to actor-producer Sachin Joshi’s corporate firm. However, the slum dwellers and members who have submitted to benefit from the SRA scheme are by and large unaware that the founding members are already in jail custody.
The names of those who got remanded to judicial custody in the previous year from Omkar Realtor’s management stakeholders includes Kamal Kishore Gupta (62), Managing Director Babulal Varma (51) and Sachin Joshi (37). The arrests and attachment of property has been carried out by the ED under the anti-money laundering law.
A senior law enforcing authority when queried on the matter cited an earlier instance. “There was a company that was offering holiday retreat facilities to its clients at prices running into a few lakhs. However, even long after the arrest of its promoters and ban on its conducting business, there were field agents going around and making sales pitches to unsuspecting clients.”
“Had these prospective clients even done a cursory google search the cat would have been out of the bag. Similarly, the story today is that Omkar Realtors promoters have for long been under jail custody. However, the agents, brokers and administrators attached to the firm are carrying out brusque business under the guise of representing its top management,” he disclosed.
The Sprouts’ Special Investigation Team (SIT) reliably learnt that top ministers and politicians both from the state and center used to frequently hobnob with the managing cadres of Omkar Realtors. However, after their being jailed, their close ties with influential politicians died a natural death.
