Over 1200 flat buyers who are unable to get proper civic facilities for over two years, in the “Suburbia” housing complex located at Mohone, Ambernath, from “Mohon Developers”, despite lodging an FIR with police and moving the court, have announced to undertake a fast unto death in front of the Suburbia Housing Complex on Republic Day.

The flay buyers led by Manohar Vazirani have sought the permission of the local police and the Ambernath Municipal Corporation to launch an agitation.

Vazirani, a social worker from Ulhasanagar, had purchased a flat in the “Mohan Group Life style Housing Complex” located near Father Agnel School, Ambernath West. However the flats lacked basic facilities and out of 625, nearly 200 flat owners were affected by the bad condition of the flats. Sometime back, the women residing in these flats had organised a morcha to the Ambernath Municipal Council, as a protest against water shortage in the complex.

The flay buyers came across shortcomings like the area of the flat less than what was agreed upon, leakages in the flat, exorbitant maintenance charges, no society registration, non-submission of documents for registration by the developer etc. As such flat buyers complained to the Mohan Developers. Since the developers did not respond to their complaints, Vazirani moved the court and based on the court directions, an FIR was lodged against Mohan Developers.

As per the court order, the FIR was lodged on February 29,2020, with Ambernath Police against directors of the Mohan Developers-Jitendra Mohandas Lalchandani, Amit Gandhi, Deepak Manchanda and others under IPC 420,406,407,415 and sections 6,10,11 and MOFA. However no action was taken against the developer for nearly two years. Thereafter there have been many meetings with local social workers and elected representatives. However the developer continued to dodge the flat buyers.

Vazirani said that as a protest against developer’s high handedness, a fast unto death will be undertaken on January 26,2022, in front of the headquarters of Suburbia Housing Complex.

In another incident, the Mohan Group has constructed a multi storey building- “Mohan Altija” in Kalyan in violation of regulations and has carried out illegal construction of lakhs of square feet. The appeal by Mohan Lalchandani challenging the action taken against this unauthorized construction is pending in the Bombay High Court.

In between, KDMC regulated nearly 45000 square feet illegal construction in “ Mohan Altija”, by collecting a Rs 12.5 crore fine. Besides the additional illegal construction of lakhs of square feet has been carried out and the complaint about it has been made to the KDMC, District administration and the high court, Vazirani added.
